Borneo Sporenburg is located on 2 old harbour peninsulas in the east docklands of Amsterdam. It is a high-density area consistent of different types or row houses made from a similar frame, which is the classic Dutch way of building, narrow, high and back-to-back.
The main services (staircases, bathroom, kitchen) as well as the bedrooms are located at the back of the building, whereas the front are the living spaces. The key characteristic of the buildings is the void located in the middle of each unit spanning from the top all the way to the ground level and then into the street
(under the living spaces).
