The initial idea was to raise the east facing roof and create a west facing skylight with a half arch spanning down to the ground floor. After investigating this proposal in the heliodome I realised that this idea only works after midday, enriching the space with natural light whilst before midday there is no natural light reaching in. Having this in mind I’ve decided to maximise my space using the alleyway next to the building as well as trying to figure out in what ways I can bring lighter in before midday. But simultaneously thinking how to create different spaces with just light.
Having in mind trying to let natural light in before midday I created skylights on the east facing roof, allowing rays of light to enter the space. Trying to create the shape of those skylights to optimise the amount of light that can come in according to the sun pattern of the area, as well as keeping in mind the half arch inside trying not to disturb its effect after midday. Experimenting with the layout of the floors to create different spaces with light with different intensities and shadows and in addition with the filtered skylight to change the colour of the light.
After deciding to keep the full façade of the building and moving the entrance to the alleyway I created a courtyard behind the façade. In result making a space that allows light to go into all the floors throughout the whole day. As well as creating a triangular opening to the floors and roof on the left end of the building for stairs as well as for light to travel all the way down to that space.
Experimenting in the heliodome using the west facing skylights and experimenting it with various months of the year thus slightly different sun patterns to come with the common spots on the floors. In result I created a cut on each floor positioned one slightly in front of the other to allow light to travel all the way to the ground floor.
